Open PDF files in Acrobat

Browsers do not always open PDF files in Adobe Acrobat.  For consistent performance across all your machines please be sure to update your Adobe Acrobat Reader and set your browser (Firefox) to open PDFs with Adobe Acrobat.

 

Updating Adobe Acrobat

Navigate to : http://get.adobe.com/reader/

(You may wish to deselect the option McAfee Security Scan offer)

 

Setting Firefox to use Adobe Acrobat to Open PDFs

Open Firefox Options Panel by either

oClick the Firefox menu (three horizontal lines located below the X to close Firefox) in the top right corner of Firefox and click Options.

oTap the Alt key on your keyboard then Click Tools then Options from the Firefox Menu Bar

Click Applications from the selector on the left of the Options window

In the Search box type pdf

In the right column selection the "Action" drop down and set it to either:

oUse Adobe Acrobat XX.X (default)

The default option will open PDFs in the Acrobat Application as a sperate window.

oUse Adobe Acrobat XX.X (in Firefox)

The in Firefox option will keep the PDFs in a browser tab.

 

Setting Google Chrome to use Adobe Acrobat to Open PDFs

The settings option can be accessed by clicking: chrome://settings/content/pdfDocuments or

Open Google Chrome Settings by clicking the three dots in the upper right and choosing settings.

In the settings search bar type pdf and press enter

Scroll down and click the arrow pointing right beside Site Settings

Scroll down and click the arrow pointing right beside PDF Documents

Enable the option that says Download PDF files instead of automatically opening them in Chrome

Close the Settings Window

On the next attempted open of the PDF it will download and show in the lower left.

Click the up arrow beside the PDF and choose Always Open in Adobe Reader

Future pdfs will open automatically in the Adobe Reader
